SCHEDULE: WEEK OF BEHIND CLOSED DOORS 14

NOTE ON FILING
This is the first schedule I have filed that is organised around a defence.
I did not file a schedule for Behind Closed Doors 13. I had no competitive obligation and I was not in the building. I watched the broadcast in Hamburg two days later, in full. One item from it appears below, because it concerns my opponent.
This document would ordinarily be finalised on Sunday evening before the week begins. It has been updated on Thursday instead, because an item arrived on Wednesday that required a category I had not previously used. I have recorded it in its correct slot rather than appending it, because a schedule that hides its own revisions in a footnote is a less honest document than one that shows them where they happened.
The schedule is provided in twenty-four-hour time, Hamburg time zone. I travel Friday.

————————————————
MONDAY
06:00 — Wake.
06:00–06:15 — Hydration, mobility sequence. Thoracic rotation at approximately eighty per cent range. Weight check.
06:15–07:00 — Medical evaluation. Imaging repeated.
Findings, recorded in full: four weeks have elapsed since the estimate of a further four to six. The lower bound of that estimate falls this week. Resolution is not confirmed. End-range rotation under load is improved and is not full. The pain response to direct compression has reduced and is present.
I wrote in my last schedule that I expected the ribs to still be a fact on the night of this match. I am recording that the expectation was correct, which is not the same thing as being pleased by it.
The physician began, unprompted, to offer the estimate that assumes I am competing. I asked him not to finish the sentence. He did not. I would still rather have the honest number than the applicable one, and I would rather the record show that I was offered the applicable one and declined it than that I was never offered it at all.
07:00–07:30 — Breakfast. Two soft-boiled eggs, one slice rye bread, one apple, one black coffee. Unchanged.
07:30–09:30 — Film: Ignition, women's tournament semi-final. Voss d. Ó'Súilleabháin, submission.
I have watched this match nine times since May. This is the first time I have watched it as preparation for her, and I am recording before I begin that it is the wrong preparation. I am watching it once, now, so that nobody, including me, later mistakes it for the right one.
Conditions present in May: she had fought once already that night. The cut above the eye was stitched and closed with tape before the bell. I reopened it early with an elbow. I took the left arm in an Americana and, when she would not concede it, converted to the armbar without releasing. She tapped.
Conditions present on Saturday: she will not have fought already. The cut will not be open until somebody opens it. And in May she had not yet written down that she wanted anything. The match was correspondingly short.
At the cage door afterwards she put her hand on my shoulder. I nodded. I have reviewed that moment nine times also. I have not previously filed it.
09:30–10:00 — Walk. Five kilometres. No music.
10:00–11:30 — Gym session 1. Full lower-body block, unmodified.
11:30–12:00 — Lunch. Salmon, brown rice, steamed greens.
12:00–13:30 — Rest. No screens. Reading: text not related to combat sport.
13:30–15:00 — Gym session 2. Submission drill block. Partner: M. Entries against an opponent who advances while being controlled.
15:00–15:30 — Notes.
15:30–15:50 — Ice, left flank. Twenty minutes. Still scheduled. Recorded at full duration.
16:00–17:00 — Dinner. Chicken, sweet potato, mixed greens. Tea.
17:00–19:00 — Film: Behind Closed Doors 12. Ó'Súilleabháin d. Volkov. Complete.
I had not previously watched beyond twelve minutes forty. I left the building at that point, and I said so at the time, and I said there was nothing available after it.
I have now watched the remainder. She was still solvent at sixteen thirty-eight. That is a further three minutes and fifty-eight seconds which I did not see live. I am recording that I left before them, and that the statement that nothing was available after twelve minutes forty was inaccurate. It was a statement about what was available to me.
19:00–20:00 — Free time.
21:30 — In bed.
22:00 — Sleep.
————————————————
TUESDAY
06:00 — Wake.
06:00–07:00 — Standard morning sequence.
07:00–09:15 — Gym session 1. Conditioning block. Hill repeats.
09:15–10:15 — Cooldown, ice, lunch.
10:15–11:45 — Rest.
11:45–14:15 — Sparring. New protocol.
Partner: M. Register: hardcore — forward pressure, close range, willingness to absorb in order to arrive. Round duration: not disclosed to me. M holds the stopwatch. I do not. I have instructed him not to answer if I ask how much time remains.
Round one: I estimated, on completion, that it had run nineteen minutes. M's watch read twenty-two minutes and six seconds. I was wrong by three minutes. I am not ordinarily wrong about time, and I am recording the size of the error rather than rounding it.
At approximately fourteen minutes by my own estimate I asked M how long was left.
He did not answer, as instructed.
I have never in eleven years asked a question during a session. I am recording that I asked one. I am recording also that I did not know I was going to until I had.
Round two: duration not recorded, at my instruction. I did not ask.
14:15–14:45 — Notes.
14:45–15:05 — Ice.
15:15–16:15 — Dinner.
16:15–18:15 — Reading: Ó'Súilleabháin's filed material, complete, again.
18:15–19:15 — Free time.
21:30 — In bed.
22:00 — Sleep.
————————————————
WEDNESDAY
06:00 — Wake.
06:00–07:00 — Standard morning sequence.
07:00–09:15 — Gym session 1. Strength maintenance, full body, torso at full load. Completed without modification.
09:15–09:45 — Correspondence.
This is the new category.
Ms. Ó'Súilleabháin has written me a letter. It was published on the federation site overnight. I am informed that a paper copy is also in the post, addressed care of The Foundry. It has not arrived. I read the published copy twice — the first time without notes, because she asked me to, and because I wrote that first viewings are for watching and it would be poor practice to have written that and then not do it when the opportunity arrived.
I have not previously received a letter from an opponent.
Items I am able to file, from the second reading, with notes:
One. She tapped in May partly because she was relieved to be permitted to stop. That is information about May. She has told me it is no longer accurate. I will use it anyway, because a fighter who has once been relieved to stop knows where the relief is located, and so do I now.
Two. The right shoulder. She has disclosed it in writing, to the one person most able to use it, which Ms. Drummond would not have done and which I would not have done either. I will use it.
Three. She has stated that she will go to the ribs. Correct. I expected it and I would have thought less of her preparation had she written otherwise.
Four. She has stated that the want does not run out. That it is not a tell, does not appear in advance in the hips, and will not be produced at twelve minutes forty and then exhausted.
I cannot assess this. Nothing in the film tests it. Nothing in her six STRIFE matches or her filed documents gives me a figure for it. I am recording that I have no data on a material variable four days before a match, which has not happened to me in eleven years, and that she has handed me the variable deliberately, in writing, and told me to use it, knowing that I cannot.
I am aware that this was the purpose of the letter.
Items I am not able to file:
She writes that whichever of us walks out with the championship, she will not stay in the building afterwards, because she has somewhere to be. And that she has not been able to say that in a long time.
I have read that line four times. It is not about the match. I do not know why I have read it four times.
09:45–11:45 — Cooldown, ice, lunch, rest.
11:45–14:15 — Sparring. Protocol as Tuesday. Two rounds. Durations not disclosed. I did not ask.
14:15–15:15 — Ice.
15:15–16:00 — Notes.
16:00–17:00 — Dinner.
17:00–19:00 — Free time. Not used as free time. Recorded honestly.
21:30 — In bed.
22:00 — Sleep. Approximately 23:10, actual.
————————————————
THURSDAY
06:00 — Wake.
06:00–07:00 — Standard morning sequence. Medical check-in by phone. No change.
07:00–08:30 — Gym session. Mobility, scapular work, hip work, breath work under resistance.
08:30–10:30 — Administrative block.
Two media obligations. Championship transport, confirmed. And the office has supplied the details of the date it asked me to confirm in my last schedule. It was this one.
10:30–11:00 — Lunch.
11:00–12:30 — Rest.
12:30–13:30 — Film: Behind Closed Doors 13. Segment: "After." Ó'Súilleabháin, Fallon. Second viewing.
This segment contains no information about the match. Ms. Fallon asks Ms. Ó'Súilleabháin what she will do after her career, and Ms. Ó'Súilleabháin says that she does not know, and that it is dark from where she is standing. She then makes a promise for the night after Saturday.
I have watched it twice. I do not have a reason. I am recording the two viewings rather than deleting them from the schedule.
13:30–15:00 — Walk. Eight kilometres.
15:00–16:00 — Ice. Dinner.
16:00–21:00 — Reading. Not related to combat sport.
21:00 — Item without category.
Four weeks ago, in a service corridor at The Foundry, Ms. Ó'Súilleabháin told me that there would be no door. I have listed that conversation under "Other" in every daily review since. I have not found a category that it belongs to.
I am informed by the broadcast that I nodded afterwards, in the corridor. I have watched the footage. I did. It is the thing I do in my corner when the assessment is complete and the bell is about to ring.
There was no bell. I have not been able to determine which assessment I had completed.
I have decided not to resolve this before Saturday. A schedule that predicts behaviour it cannot commit to is a worse document than one that leaves a line open.
21:30 — In bed.
22:00 — Sleep.

FRIDAY — TRAVEL DAY
[Conforms to the standard travel-day structure filed previously. Medical check-in on arrival at The Foundry's contracted facility.]
19:00 — Walk the building.
There is a sentence painted on the wall in the rear corridor at The Foundry in letters approximately thirty centimetres high. I have walked past it on every visit I have made to the building. I have never read it as an item.
19:05 — Read it.
THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM THE RESULT.
Item complete.

SATURDAY — BEHIND CLOSED DOORS 14
STRIFE Women's Championship. First defence.
Opponent: Ó'Súilleabháin.
Arrival: 15:30.
Medical: on arrival.
Warm-up: 90 minutes before the scheduled time of the match, as provided by the federation.
Match: as scheduled by the federation.
Departure: —
I have left this line blank. In every schedule I have filed for this federation it has had a time in it, and I have kept to the time.
I do not know when I will be leaving the building on Saturday.
————————————————
ADDITIONAL NOTES
One note, concerning PROOF. It is procedural.
The owner's rule is that no match exists at PROOF unless somebody asks for it by name, out loud, in the building, and is answered the same way. If I retain on Saturday, the rule requires nothing further of me. If I do not retain, it requires me to ask.
I have prepared the sentence. It is eleven words long.
I am not publishing it. Publishing it would be asking, and the rule specifies the building.
————————————————
Ms. Ó'Súilleabháin.
I have read it. I am not replying in writing.
You were correct about that as well.
