"VOLTAGE" — EVERY SECOND SHE HAS SPENT IN THE CRUCIBLE
Posted 4 days ago · 2:41 · 3,180,442 views
Two matches. Twenty-nine minutes and forty-one seconds of cage time. We cut out everything that wasn't her. This is what was left.
"Voltage" Nia Adeyemi returns at Behind Closed Doors 13 against Yusra Al-Nasir.

the corkscrew at 0:48 into the second corner. she changes her mind IN THE AIR. she goes up thinking one thing and lands doing another. i've watched wrestling for twenty-two years and i have not seen anyone do that

Something nobody's saying. She's the only high-flyer on either roster who has never once mistimed a landing in a six-sided cage. Everyone else is still counting corners. Watch her feet at 1:12 — she doesn't look down. She has never looked down. She learned the geometry in one night and nobody gave her a single thing for it.

0-2 in four months and this is a highlight reel. only in strife
> @nnamdi_o · 4d · 31k
> Marisol Reyes beat her in a championship quarter-final. Sera Voss beat her and Sera Voss is now the Women's Champion and is 8-1. Her entire professional record is two losses to the two best women in the building. Post something else.

She trained here. Some of you have walked past the door.

Breakdown of the Voss finish, since the package leaves it out (obviously).
14:22. Power Surge attempt off the second corner. Voss reads it early — she's already stepping across before Nia's feet leave the mat, which means Voss knew it was coming, which means Voss had watched this exact clip. Spinebuster on the catch. Ground control. Figure-four on an arm that had already been through eleven minutes of The Dissection.
She was submitted with an arm that was gone before the sequence started. She still went for it.
That is the whole problem and the whole appeal in one move.

day 89 without a nia adeyemi match. day 89. she has been signed to this company since ignition and she has fought twice

@theresa.k · 3d · 22k
my daughter is nine and has watched this eleven times since thursday and has asked me twice whether nia won. i have not worked out what to tell her yet
> @brixton_charlie · 3d · 15k
> tell her the truth and then take her to a show

Four of us grew up in that house and she is the only one who ever finished anything. I'll leave it there.

Reginald said it best on the desk. "Spectacle is what you sell when the result isn't available." Two matches. Two losses. A highlight package. The federation is advertising a woman for what she nearly does.
> @nnamdi_o · 3d · 20k
> he also said Kuramoto was finished. twice.

I ran the taster session she walked into at fourteen. She was the only one in the room who asked what happens when it goes wrong, which is not the question people expect from a girl who does what she does.
I told her the truth: you land badly, and then you get up and you find out what you're actually made of.
Nia. If you read this, and you always read this. You've been getting up for ten years. Nobody has ever seen the second part.
Go and let them see it.

she's a gymnast doing wrestling. eventually someone is going to grab hold of her and she's going to find out that being fast doesn't matter when you can't get off the mat
> @hexgeometry · 3d · 12k
> That already happened. Twice. She's still here.

I've had a look at this. I was champion in this division and I'll say the quiet bit.
That's not potential. Potential is what you call it when you don't want to commit. That is a finished, working fighter with a hole in her that nobody has bothered to help her fix, because she's easier to sell as a clip than as a contender.
Somebody in that building owes her a training partner and an honest hour.

al-nasir is 0-2 as well lol. loser leaves town except neither of them can leave, it's a cage
> @nnamdi_o · 2d · 15k
> that is the single most STRIFE sentence anybody has ever typed and I hate that it's good

Genuine question for the room. Is there anybody else on this roster whose best moment is in a loss? Every single second of this package is from a match she did not win. Every one. Three million views of a woman losing beautifully.

she replied. at three in the morning. and then she deleted it ninety seconds later. i screenshotted it because i've been on this platform long enough to know
here it is word for word
> "I know where the arm goes.

> I have watched this two hundred times and I know exactly where the arm goes and what I should have done with it and I knew it at fourteen minutes and eleven seconds, eleven seconds before she took it, and I went anyway. Everyone in this thread thinks I don't have a plan B. I have a plan B. I have had a plan B since I was nineteen and I broke my collarbone doing something that worked the first time. I sat still for three months and I built one.

> Three million of you have watched me do something nobody else can do. Not one of you has ever watched me win. I'm not asking you to feel anything about that. I'm telling you I've noticed it, because I have, every single day for eighty-nine days, and I would rather say it out loud at three in the morning to fourteen thousand strangers than keep pretending the number under my name says something other than what it says.

For the record, the thing she's describing at 14:11 is real and it's on the tape. There's a half-second where her weight shifts back toward the corner. She had the exit. She could have gone down into the corner, reset, made Voss come to her on a bad arm.
She went up instead.
Eleven seconds later it was over.
I've been saying for four months that she doesn't have a second gear. I was wrong. She has one. She has never used it. Those are completely different problems and only one of them is fixable in a fortnight.

@proofcard_watch · 19h · 25k
Reminder for everybody in here telling her to "say something." She did say something. It doesn't count.
JC Barr's rule for PROOF is that there is no card until somebody stands up and asks for a match by name, out loud, where people can hear it, and the person named answers the same way. Out loud. In the building. Not typed. Not at three in the morning. Not deleted.
Everything in this thread is worth nothing under that rule, including the best thing anybody's written in it, which she wrote and then took back.
There is exactly one place a comment section becomes real in this company and it has six sides.
> @nnamdi_o · 18h · 14k
> so the most honest thing said about her all week is officially inadmissible. brilliant. love it here
> > @proofcard_watch · 18h · 16k

@amman_sports · 16h · 11k
Some respect for the other woman in this match, please. Yusra Al-Nasir is 0-2 as well and there has been no highlight package made about her, no thread, no three million views. She has been getting up at five in a gym in Amman for four months with nobody watching at all.
One of these two is leaving Saturday with a first win. Whichever one it is, the other one goes back to a very quiet room.
> @brixton_charlie · 15h · 13k
