Overview The STRIFE Tag Team Championship has existed since the federation opened and has never been contested. It has never even been defined. At Behind Closed Doors 11, JC Barr walked into The Crucible and explained why: the way the rest of the industry runs a tag match cannot happen in this building. Tagging out belongs to a ring. It requires four ropes, a neutral corner, and a referee whose job is to watch one man and pretend the other three are not there. The Crucible has none of that. The lower two-thirds is padded cage wall — there is nothing to reach. The door does not open mid-match. A tag rope could be strung across the top third, and the office priced one out, and then declined to install what Mr. Barr described as a handle on the wall that lets a fighter make the fight stop when it starts costing him. That is the specific thing the structure was built to remove. So the office ruled. STRIFE tag matches have no tags. All four fighters are inside The Crucible when the bell rings and all four stay there until it ends. There is no legal competitor. There is no corner. The match ends the way every match in this building ends — pinfall, submission, knockout, or stoppage — and it does not matter which member of a team it happens to. One goes down, both have lost. Your partner's failure is your failure. You picked him. The belts, however, remain in a case in the office. Mr. Barr has refused to run a tournament to manufacture a division out of fighters who have never stood beside one another, on the stated grounds that a bracket produces champions rather than teams. The championship will be contested when there are teams in the locker room that formed because two people decided it — and not before. Which leaves an open question the federation has not had to answer until now: in a place built on the premise that nobody is coming to help you, who does anyone actually choose?
